Dusk Dances Haliburton ran as a very successful festival of contemporary dance for eight years in Head Lake Park from 2006 - 2014.

Dusk Dances Haliburton collaborated with Dusk Dances Inc, a charitable organization based in Toronto, to produce and present four evenings of magical dance performances each summer. The original idea for Dusk Dances was developed by Sylvie Bouchard in 1993 in Trinity Bellwoods Park in Toronto and it took off from there. Sylvie continues to be the Festival Director for Dusk Dances Inc.

Dusk Dances is an outdoor dance festival that brings high quality contemporary and traditional dance to public parks. As dusk descends, a theatrical host leads the audience - which invariably includes children, dog walkers and local residents - to eclectic dance pieces that unfold in different areas of the park. Choreographers from various backgrounds are invited to create and present a ten-minute piece inspired by the park's natural environment. Audiences are invited on a pay-what-you-can basis to an innovative site-specific festival, which is not only an artistic event but a social and cultural one as well.

Dusk Dances was very well received by the Haliburton community. We had terrific audiences, and we had great success engaging the community, presenting professional contemporary dance and providing local choreographers and dancers of all ages to be involved in a professional production in front of large audiences.

In the fall of 2014 the Dusk Dances Haliburton Committee decided to end on a high note and cease operations. Each year it became a bit more expensive and more complicated to run. And each year it became more of a challenge for the committee to raise the funds required and find the time needed throughout the year to put it all together. So after eight great years the committee decided to end on a high note.
